About Menopause Problems
To understand what can be done about your menopause symptoms, you need to understand what menopause is. Hormones play a vital role in maintain bodily functions. Hormones tell certain parts of your body to do certain things. They are involved in metabolism, reproduction, mental health, and countless other functions. But, did you know that after menopause, the ovaries stop making estrogen, estradiol, and progesterone? The lower levels of estrogen, estradiol, and progesterone wreaks havoc on the body, causing familiar symptoms such as hot flashes, osteoporosis, and fatigue.
Which Products Actually Work?
Most supplements or creams just have one ingredient. However, remember that menopause causes deficiency in estrogen, estradiol, and progesterone levels. Therefore, a variety of hormone-balancing ingredients is required.

About Us
Our mission is to provide the public with concise, clear, and unbiased information regarding the most important health issues. We strive to provide you with information that others normally wouldn’t. We want you to know about the alternatives out there so you can make a rational and informed decision. Today, the health care industry is dominated by large corporations that bribe doctors with extravagant functions and gifts. These doctors then implicitly agree to prescribe their patients with the company’s product(s). The companies are able to do this because they are granted a monopoly on drugs they developed by federal regulators at the national level.

I am menopausal, so…..what products really work.
I am also tired of corporation profits.
What is out there for over the counter products?
Dear Laura, We only review OTC products.
I tried the Mendapause they recommend here and it has worked wonders for me. I can actually go through a day without having a meltdown. This product really works.
Is that all natural product??
Laura, I have tried all of the over the counter products, nothing worked. My search ended when I tried Amberen, it stopped my hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and I sleep throughout the night now. you wont find anything else that works as well as Amberen.
I’ve been on Amberen for over 2 months , absolutely no change. I called the Nurseaid as directed and she told me to double the pill intake, still NO CHANGE!!. I feel very disappointed and ripped off !
I tried the 90-day program with Amberen. I began having hot flashes about 15 years ago, and was relieved with and HRT program that stopped them altogether. However, I was concerned about the risks, and stopped taking the HRT meds about six years ago. The hot flashes and mid-section weight appeared withing six months after stopping the HRT. I thought Amberen sounded like a good, safe choice. But I think the hot flashes actually became more frequent, and there was absolutely NO CHANGE in weight gain. Very disappointing.
Just a thought from a different angle. First, I take Amberen and it totally worked for me. I have to double dose though. After the first 2 rounds I went for 6 months and now I am starting another round and my hot flashes are already gone.
I did some reading and there are other things that affect your hormones as well. If the Amberen is not working, you may want to change your diet, stop any alcohol use, reduce your caffeine, and try and eat clean. What you are putting in your body maybe affecting the effectiveness of the Amberen. I know it works better for me since I changed those things. And, if you don’t exercise, start!!

I have the exact problem you are having. I have taken Amberen for two months and have had no change in my symptoms. Still taking and still hoping! I am extremely disappointed.
I tryid Amberen and it worked for the first month and then my hot flashes came back even while taking Amberen
It was the same with me….the Amberen worked for the first month and then the hot flashes came back. I kept taking it and it never worked again.

I am almost done with Ambren and at first it was great. I slept better and the flashes went down to maybe 5 a day and they were very mild. Now I am back to square one also. I was very disappointed also
I have tried every product out there for menopause and energy. Nothing worked. The only thing that has worked amazing is AMBEREN. I cannot believe that I feel like I am living now! I felt half dead before. I am so grateful to amberen. I want to tell every woman out there!
Don’t like corporate profits? Go to Mexico.
Wow…original Jeff Straw!!
Betty White recently said that instead of a man growing a set of kahoonas, they should grow a vagina if they want to understand how tough women are.
Wow, I agree as well. I have severe back problems since my strokes, therefore, going MEXI is not an option. Besides, I think I’d freak out before I could get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s pretty awsome coming from a man. Wish you went through this then maybe you wouldn’t be a smart ass.
Lisa, Men DO go through menopause. WITH their wives. It effects the marriage relationship and men want their loved ones to feel better. What’s wrong with that?
C’mon ladies…there’s nothing wrong with profits! It’s what generates the research into new products. How about this. Instead of a company employing you and paying you a wage from their profits…Would you prefer to work for free? I didn’t think so.
The problem with Jeff’s comment was that he should have selected a communist country as his example…not Mexico. And Jeff…stay out of the firing line around menopausal women! We can be pretty grumpy.
And yes, I am a woman who has gone through this. I commend anyone who refuses to use products that involve the abuse of horses in order to find relief. Premarin, etc. It sucked, but I’m proud to say that I’ve made it to the other side without creating a foal to be slaughtered just so I can have relief. Lots and lots of Zumba…four to five times a week and Weight Watchers five days a week have kept the pounds down. It’s been much harder to control my weight, so I just move more. No way around that. Move your arse! The endorphins will make you feel better too.
From Wiki…
Premarin is the subject of some contention. Animal welfare groups and those opposing the industry claim that animal husbandry and urine collection methods used in Premarin’s production cause undue stress and suffering to the mares involved.[4] Allegations of abuse range from concern over stall size, access to water, exercise, cruel treatment, collection system and continuous breeding cycles, resulting in premature death for thousands of mares and foals. Some claim the numbers are more accurately in the millions.[5]
For six months of the year the mares are outside, where they are annually impregnated. The mares, stabled inside for the other six months of the year, are restrained in a variety of ways, with plastic urine-collection bags in place. These bags can limit movement on their own, but many of these horses are restrained part or all of the time, further restricting natural movement. Morbidity can result, with infection and other skin injury resulting from the urine bags, and the restriction of movement can also lead to disability. Fluid (water) intake is severely restricted, as well.[citation needed] Most horses have a far shorter life-span in this environment than would be expected.
Some of this contention may stem from the looser standards formerly held in the industry, although accurate records are lacking. The pregnant mare urine (PMU) farms have been in existence since 1942. At that time, many farms were breeding large amounts of foals because more pregnant mares meant more urine and more income. A large number of these foals were unwanted. Many of them were out of draft mares because the larger horses could produce more urine. These foals, in many cases, were reported as being sent to slaughter.
Around the time of the turn of the century, however, the industry was cut. In part, this was from research indicating that lower doses of the drug might instead be safer. As a result, some facilities reduced the number of mares that were contained on-site, and some contend that other aspects of the industry were updated as well.
The cut spurred much controversy of its own. Many animal rights groups were (and still are) very against the industry, and so this downsizing represented a victory for them — fewer farms meant fewer animals likely to be mistreated or killed. However, it also led many of these farms to sell off large numbers of horses for slaughter.
The downsizing of the industry led to another change. With a lesser quantity of urine needed for the production of Premarin, the ranchers involved in the industry were no longer limited to using only draft horses. More of a focus on breeding saleable foals has been seen, with an emphasis on selecting good quality stallions to sire the foals. Crosses now popular within the industry may include such breeds as Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Hanoverians, Paints, and other such breeds, in addition to the more traditionally-used draft breeds. The ranchers rely on selling foals as much as they rely upon the urine collected from the pregnant mares. Many of these farms utilize websites and forms of promotion identical to non-Premarin related horse breeders, and, in nearly all ways, are indistinguishable from the average breeder of equines.
Currently, those in favor of the industry claim that standards on farms are strict and meticulous records must be kept, and that all ranchers must follow the “Recommended Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Horses in PMU Operations” in order to keep their contract. They further state that ranchers are regularly inspected to ensure they are following these codes in order to ascertain well-maintained animals and facilities.
*Unwanted foals are still sent outside the country for slaughter for consumption in Europe.
Good luck finding a plant based replacement ladies.
Lol Jeff you have experience with menopause and drug issues?
Why is Jeff even reading this site? LOL.
If Jeff hasn’t already he WILL experience male menopause and get the proverbial sports car …that’s if he hasn’t spent all his money on Sweet Young Thing that has promised to love him forever as long as he keeps adorning and housing her. THEN his health will break down and Sweet Young Thing will dump him and he will try to gain back the love of the wife he dumped. lol… yes, I speak from experience.
That’s helpful, telling a concerned consumer to go to Mexico to avoid the obscene corporate profits of big pharma. You must be an insider – or a Republican Vulture Capitalist. That’s an intelligent, thoughtful response. Ignorant Jerk! I mean Jeff!
Lol @ Jeff Straw I really have to wonder why a man is even reading this website let alone posting. A women wannabe perhaps…
Why don’t you horn in on a site with man issues? You have no business making rude comments about a horrible medical condition all of us women have to be tormented by!
He was simply stating a fact… quit throwing your hotflashes around!
Just like a man, to give an opinion about something he knows nothing about. Go find yourself a young twit, buy a convertible, and deal with your man aging crap.
idiot!!!!!!!
Why are you even on this website? You are not female, and woman here are trying to help one another. Dealing with issues that you could not possibly understand! We support eachother and support is what we need, we do not need your input..
EFF YOU JEFF STRAW MAY YOU GO THRU SURGICAL MENOPAUSE YOU FOOKING HUMP EET SHIGHT AND LIVE
Actually a LOT of people go to Mexico to buy medication that would be cost prohibitive here. I lived in WASHINGTON State and Canadians come here for medicine and medical care because they would have to wait YEARS for treatment. I have known a few people that have gone to Mexico for their prescriptions. Jeff may have sounded like a smart as when he wrote his post, but he wasn’t. He was speaking the truth.
IDIOT !!!! STUPID MEN !!! YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT WOMEN GO THROUGH !!!!
I have been using I-Cool, it has completely stopped all of my hot flashes. you can buy them at any drug store or walmart stores. I would advise you to try them. They are in the vitamins section.
Hi , does the icool help with all the symptoms as wee
Has anyone tried i-cool for 3months…when I started my 4th month…my night sweats seemed to return…the same happened to my friend. It works for awhile then nothing. Do all supplements act this way?
Can you double the dose on I cool it’s been 3months with no relief
I tried Icool several times hoping for relief. It didn’t work.
I had exactly the same thing happen with I-Cool. It stopped working the fourth month, and I am back to changing my clothes 2-3 times every night. Just when I thought I would live through this…
I have been using iCool for about 3 months. It is working very well for me. I was having hot flashes about 6 times during the day and 4-5 at night. The first few days I started taking iCool, it went down to 2-3 per night and has slowly improved over time. I am now to the point where I only have one every 2-3 days! A big change. I will mention, I am terrible about taking pills, so I put it next to my toothbrush. I also finally started taking a daily vitamin the same time I started the iCool, so I don’t know if that helped or not. I know my hot flashes did seem to roller coaster, where they would be really bad, then be a little better, and get bad again. But I really do think this stuff is working.
For my hot flashes, I was having about 24 or more daily. My alternative chiroprator. recommended Promeline Iodine its by Standard. My hot flashes have gone. been free for 2 years now. now when you first take it, take 2 dailey for about 2/3 days your body will let you know(his exact words and i went HUH? let me know ?? how??) it just does. then take 1 every nite for abourt a week until your body lets you know. your hot flashes will start to diminish in about 2 days getting less severe and less frequent. then you will be flash free. i suggest you then take one weekly cause you will feel the flashes creeping up. thats it. listen to your body. Just google Promeline Iodine and pick the site u want. it runs abour 14-17 for about 50. not expensive and sooo worth it. good luck.
My hot flashes were so bad I’d have to get up in the middle of the night and change cloths.I had a complete hysterectomy in 1985 I’m 54 yrs old.I’d have 9 or 10 a day you’d think in all those yrs that I’d be over the hot flashes
This medicine I COOL works wonderful .The hotflashes were actually interfering with my daily life.Thank You so very much.I’ve been taking it sense Thursday 4-6-12 at 1pm and it’s 3:15am on 4-8-12 and I’ve only had 2 hot flashes and they weren’t bad ones that I was accustomed to having.I’m willing to pay the $15 for them and I’m glad there is no estrogen in them.
Again thank you.
Try Estroven Extra Strength it works good.
I am a 61 year old woman. I thought I was finished with menopause but I guess I was wrong. I have bouts of sweating that I am fed up with. These have gone on for years now. By the time I get my hair ready to style( after blowing) the roots of my hair are wet and the back of my neck feels like I just got out of the shower. I am so fed up with all this mess. I can go from being just fine to being irritable in a snap. What can I do? I need help.
Have you tried any of the top-rated products?
I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS YOU DO. WHEN I GET OUT OF THE SHOWER AND DRY MY HAIR I AM SOAKING WET AGAIN AND MY HAIR IS DRIPPING WET AFTER I DRY IT. I HAD A HYSTERECTOMY 20 YRS. AGO AND THEY HAVE TRIED HORMONE PILLS AND SHOTS AND ALSO TAKEN THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AND NOTHING WORKS………….HELP
I had a total hysterectomy back in 2004. I was on HRT for about 3 years. After being taken off of HRT I started having hot flashes. I tried a lot of OTC products searching for relief. I am pleased to say that Evening Primrose Oil works really good. You can find it at Walmart or your local pharmacy in the vitamine section. I take 2 capsules in the morning. You can start off with the recommend dose of one, but for me it didn’t help, so I went up to two capsules a day. Along with taking it, I try to stay away form caffeine and sweets. You will notice that caffeine and sweets really bring the hot flashes on.
Best of Luck,
Jennifer, I know exactly what you mean. I am 61 too and thought I’d be done with hot flashes since I had a complete hysterectomy 12 years ago. Had to discontinue HRT due to being high risk for breast cancer. The hot flashes are a nightmare! I found an over the counter product called icool. It’s available in drug stores, is inexpensive (about $20 a month) and helps a lot. I have some days with no hot flashes for up to 12 hours. Not every day is that good but many are. Check the online reviews, they are good. Good luck!
I am 49 years old and I have been taking I-Cool for almost a year. I have no more hot flashes. You can purchase them in any drug store and walmart in the vitamin section, try them. They have given me back the life I wanted.
Try OTC Estroven Nighttime. It’s the only product that’s helped with severe nightsweats.
Michelle,
I had a complete hysterectomy at age 40. Today I am 54 years old and have never felt better in my life since I’ve been on bio-identical hormones. I go to the Center for Optimal Vitality, Dr. Bruce Worrell, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. It’s a bio-identical pellet that is inserted under the skin and almost painless. Last for 3-4 months. I’ve been on this since Nov. of 2010 and have NO menopause symptoms. I hope you take the time and check out their web site. I wish you the best.
Get promeline iodine read my comment. just google it, It’s by standard and goes for about 14-17 dollars abottle for 50. go to any site. It works. my chiroprator who is into alternative medicing told me about it. and since taking it i have been flash free. I had them all friggen day and nite, it was horrible. you start by taking 2 a day for a few days then down to once dailey, your body will tell you when to stop(it just does) when my dr. told me that I went HUH?? really?? how. but it just does. then take it once a week. when you feel the flashes creeping back just take them for a few days then back to once a week. it’s been 2 years for me. But i still have to take it. it’s not a cure just help really great wonderful help. i had been so embarassed when I would be dripping wet red faced in a gathering, no more.
Icool worked for me. I have been on it for about 10 days and I felt a difference on the the 5th day…no more night sweats. The only side affects have been a bit of a gassy feeling but I have no problems with that since i am finally sleeping all night with no hat flashes…
LOOKING FOR THE BEST OVER THE COUNTER MRUGS FOR HOT FLASHES AND MOOD SWINGS..GOING ON YEAR NUMBER THREE AND I AM OUT OF PATIENCE,,, I HAVE HEART DISEASE AND CANT TAKE JUST ANYTHING…
Please consult your health care professional if you have other health problems besides menopause.
is there any side effects for amberen if so what????
Please help me my only problem is vaginal dryness and I am closing up HELP!!!!!
check with your doctor to see if you can take I-Cool, they are located in the vitamin section in drug stores and walmart. They have helped me tremendously, ask your doctor about them.
Phyto B works miracles! I have suffered for over ten years with hot flashes that grew worse. Several months ago I started taking “Phyto B” herbal supplement , which can be ordered online without a prescription, and within two weeks all of the hotflashes, dryness, sleepless nights, and everything else that comes from menopause is gone. I take four tablets cut in half every night and have had no side effects . Like most everyone else, I was concerned about taking a hormone replacement because of the side effects. I was informed that Pyto B doesn’t increase risk of breast cancer like most prescribed hormone replacement does. It cost about $34 for 240 pellets. No more sweats and now I can sleep! zzzzzzz
thank you
Your very welcome. 🙂
I’ve had hot flashes for years…Awful…I bought this cool product…Not one hotflash today, but felt like i was in some kind of ozone…brain didn’t work at all…As much as i hate hot flashes…I won’t take another one of these pills…We are all different…It doesn’t work for me.
I-cool has worked wonders for me. It took a couple of weeks for the hot flashes to go away completely but they are gone now. The moodiness went quicker.
Awesome! I’m sitting here at work all red faced. Hate it. I’m going to try it!
I’m 51 years old and began perimenopausal symptoms at 37. I had hot flashes, mood swings, headaches, low to no sexual interest, hair loss, all getting worse as I got older. I took all sorts of things phyto estrogens, soy, black cohosh, dong quai and so on. It helped a little but all symptoms were still barely tolerable. Three years ago, I took Amberen and all my symptoms either went away or became minimal. Just so that you know, I have to be very careful about what I take because I was born with a congenital heart defect, so I can tell you first hand that it did not affect my blood pressure or heart rate. I hope that if you read this, my experience will help you.
I’d like information about amberen. I wake up once every hour with a hot flash. And my memoryis about a second long. I need help!
Try OTC Estroven Nighttime for night sweats relief. It’s all natural and around $9/mo.
I tried Amberen and it did not work at all. When I called to say it wasn’t working they told me to double my dose. Still nothing. What a waste of money!
I am using amberen after trying other things, bio-identical hormones, herbal etc…, amberen so far has shown really quick results in less than a week. I can sleep through the night without all the night sweats and I am more relaxed and feel less moody
I was pleasantly surprised
wow the same experience for me!! What a waste of money.
I too tried Amberen and it didn’t work for the 1st 30 days. I called and they also told me to double up for 2 weeks only. I did that and I’m back on the 2 tables once a day. Hot flashes have lessened but are still there, just not as often. If anyone finds something that works for the hot flashes, doesn’t make you bloated and gassy, manages your moods and is NATURAL, let us all know. I am also a bit skeptical about the Amberen being Natural…I don’t think it is but still researching.
I began taking Estroven at the beginning of my menapause and it has worked wonders! To test it, I stopped taking it and within 30 days I was back to the hotflashes and my severe, and I mean severe, mood swings. As soon as I started taking the Estroven again, voila….all was right with the biology again! Walmart even makes their own brand, Estroblend and it works too, but I think the Estroven is a little better because it has natural vitamins and other supplements too.
I would like to try Amberen in hopes that it would help relieve some of the symptoms you posted here, but it has traces of MSG in it (Monosodium glutamate) a food additive which is essentially really really bad for you and which I am allergic to.
MSG to many can cause migraines, asthma attacks, fainting, nausea, nervous conditions and a bunch of other crappy side effects it’s really unhealthy and I cannot understand why the FDA approved it it. I also cannot see why it would be in a menopause supplement.
Just wondering if sex drive / interest returns or gets better when taking Amberin. I just ordered it and am anxious to try it.
I have been taking bio-identical hormones and although I no longer have Hot Flashes, I still feel like my memory is bad, I have belly fat and very low libido….
cheryl did you get an answer to your question concerning amberen
susan did you get an answer to your question concerning amberen
I meant susan not cheryl
Try organic black cohosh supplements and organic matcha green tea.
Are you still taking Amberen and are you still satisfied?
i use bio identical hormones they keep all menopause symptoms away. i lost forty pounds too. also natural supplements coq10 for heart. only from health food stores. watch know the cause with doug kaufman you will be educated.
hi cheryl,
did you lose the 40lbs. as a result of the bio identical hormones? is that OTC? I am 48 and have been having meno-symptoms. I also get terrible hives right before my menstral.
thanks,
lea
I have been on bio-identicals for about 2 years and they work great but as of January 2012, the insurance companies do not want to cover them. Pharmacies are required to list each ingredient on the bill and the insurance only wants to cover the main ingredient which excludes the cream and another adadative that makes it a compound. Rather than paying a co-pay for the estrogen and progesterone compounds, it will cost over $50 for each.
WOW! You lost weight on bio identical hormones? I took them for 5 years and have done nothing but gain weight ever since!!!!! I even changed hormone docs – he contributed my 40 lb weight gain to being on too high a dose for too long, given by the previous doc, he reduced my dose and changed me from bio identical pill form to cream form and BAM! Another gain of additional 35 lbs!!!!!
I weaned myself off the bio identical hormones and now the hot flashes are starting again and the weight has not changed! NOTHING has worked on my weight so as a last resort I am going to try Amberen. Here goes nothing (or here goes $100!!!)
I was hesitant about paying the $100 also but I figured you could pay up to that trying out other stuff too. I know someone else who had just started the Amberen and talked to her first. I got it and have been taking the 2 pill dose, I have 2 days left.
I really never have had the sweats like I hear about, only once in a while. But boy the mood swings I have had!! Since the menopause started I have had no sex drive and my memory seems a little short and fuzzy. I haven’t slept well thru the night in years–can’t turn my brain off! Weight gain is what it is and If I’d excercise I’d be better.
I can say for a fact I feel the best part of the Amberen has helped my mood swings! And that is a blessing. It seems like maybe it’s helped on the hot flashes…maybe it helped nipped those in the bud.Now that I’ve done the full course, we’ll see what happens!
Hi Cheryl,
Can you tell me what the name of the product you are taking?? Also, did this help you lose weight or did you take something different for that??
Thanks any information you can share will greatly appreciated!!
Hey Cheryl, I have been on bio identical hormones for about 6 years now, I was taking regular hrt, when the doctor took me off of them cold turkey at age 55, I thought I would lose my mind. Then my primary doctor put me on bios, cream in the morning and at night, did wonders for me and my mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, I don’t ever want to go off of this stuff. Then the dreaded atrophy started, so now I’m on Estrace for that, tried the ring, it was great but did I gain weight from that, so the Estrace is better for me.
But lately, I don’t know what is going on, the hot flashes come when I am getting ready, say like doing my hair, I feel like I need another shower, and the night sweats have been constant this week, even with a fan blowing on me. I might need my bios upped a little.
ok i dont know what this bios cream is.was watching the rosie show and they were also talking about some kind of cream. it worked on the flashes but also on sex drive…which i have tons of one and 0 of the other. help me to understand
Natural compounds in combination of Bi-est/testosterone and progesterone cream takes care of hot flashes, dryness and sex drive. Again, insurance companies are refusing to pay for them now. I went the bio-identicals route because of the side effects of synthetic hormomes. I had a complete hysterectomy many years ago so I’ve been on something for over 11 years now.
I’ve been using bio-identicals for 2 years now. I also had a hystorectomy many years ago and went with bio-identicals for the same reason as Sharon. I have been completely satisfied with the results. Those terrible, terrible hotflashes disappeared within 3 day of my first treatment. Sex drive went from non-existing to awesome and the mood swings finally disappeared. The treatments are designed for the individual, not a one size fits all package. I also lost weight but that is probably because I regained the desire to resume working out more. The only complaint is that it is somewhat costly and not covered by insurance. But, it’s worth it in my opinion.
Cheryl, can you tell me what this product is and where you can get it.
hi, cheryle i also would like to know which bio identical hormone you use and if that is what helped you lose weight? i`m wanting to go off prempro but want to try something that will work on nightsweats ensomnia without weightgain.
What did you take that you lost 40 lbs.?
Iam 49 yrs and what really scareme now is my depresion and bad mood. Iam always angry and cry about anything, please tell me what can I do.
Maria, I would love to chat with you about some answers I have found. jpacarlson@yahoo.com is my email. If you would like to talk on the phone, 559 298-1663. You do not have to be so upset and depressed.
I’m 48 and don’t have night sweats but have crazy brain fog. I can’t think and am very emotional. I tried Amberen and I did notice that things were better, even my husband noticed the difference, but it is expensive. I just ran out last month and I am thinking that it is worth it to be able to actually think again. If someone knows of something less expensive I would like to give it a try.
I found taking 5HTP works great for depression/ mood control. It is an herbal supplement and I was able to completely stop taking Lexapro(been off for a year and a half) and lost weight that was put on due to the medication.
What is 5HTP? I have been on Lexapro for almost 5 years…I can’t stand the weight I’ve gained but if I forget to take it even one day, I snap like a twig and can’t sleep from the anxiety. I would love to try to get off of it, even though I only take 5mg per day.
Give your husband a medal…
I talked to my ob several years ago about anger issues associated with menopause. He put me on Effexor, he said it helped with other
symptoms as well. It does. Even though it is an anti-depressant it helps with all the symptoms. I still have occasional hot flashes but nothing terrible. It’s worth a shot, I felt so bad for my kids, they were certainly grateful for the change.
I had breast cancer which part of my treatment was chemo, that put me into instead menopause. I’m going on my third year of hot flashes which occur every 35 mins. I tired from not being able to get a full 8 hours of sleep in 3 years as well as being 40lbs over weight. Nothing seems to help, and because I was 30% percent possitive for estrogen I need to be carefull in what I take. They had me on anti depresents which made me depresed. I tried the black Cohosh and nothing. Help I’m losing my desire for life and I’m having a hard time with my joints not only from the chemo but also because I can’t get this weight off.
Hi Rose + Others,
I began taking PhytoB after a radical hysterectomy @age 36 + being thrust into “surgical menopause”. PhytoB addresses every physical/mental/emotional symptom I experienced: constant hotflashes, nitesweats, chills, irritability, weepiness; even my mood is stabilized (no more depression). I’m 42 yrs now and still take about 4 pellets per day. Even my obgyn is on board w/me taking a natural herbal supplement + she’s adheres to the traditional “medical model” in her practice. I didn’t want to take Premarin (horse urine!), Estrace or any other synthetic hormones. The PhytoB has: Fermented Plant Derived Estrogens/Progesterone, Soybean/Licorice Root, Barbasco/Diosciora Quat Extract + other Plant Extracts w/lovely spellings. It’s made by Bezwecken (Wilsonville, OR) + is about $30 bottle. For me it has always worked fabuously. Check it out and see it may help. Regards…
Thank you so much. I am going to try it. I have the same story.
where do you get this at Thanks
hi, well I had a complete hysterectomy in 1988. I was on HRT therapy for many yrs and it helped the hot flashes but I have been overweight ever since unless I exercise every single day for an hr. Now I have arthritis and the exercise is limited and I am allergic to chlorine so pool therapy is minimal too. Now my dr. has put me on antidepressants saying it will help the sweats and depression. Not working. After 27 yrs of battle I am about done and suffer most the time. This PhytoB, is it over the counter? I am looking online to check. Thanks for another hope!
Rose, please call me, I would like to encourage you as well. There are answers for all of us. 559-298-1663
Rose, I have recently gone through lung cancer treatment. I hope things are better for you. Just look at what you have and how much worse things could be.
Going through the same thing. Thanks
I did not want to take hormone therapy. My doctor prescribed a low dose of Neurontin. I thought she was crazy, but when I looked it up it said it did help some women. It has helped with the night sweats … not completely but alot. I don’t wake up every hour now! Maybe speak with your doctor about this.
I am 52 and I am at the end of my rope. I am tired of feeling tired, confused, agitated, down, no energy, memory loss, hot flashes, sweats and not wanting to be around anyone. Please help.
This is NOT me!
Hey I feel the same way!
I am 53 and a teacher. I always want to be my best for the kids..but don’t want to be around anyone..sheesh.
I am going to take amberen to see if that helps.
will let you know if it helps…or not
Did Amberen help?
yes, did amberen help?
I’m 44 years old and I had an histerectomy last year. I have the same symptoms and I’m scared to be this depressed and without energy for my kids and everything. Weight lost is also worring me to because I have gained 20 pounds since last year and I do a lot to lose the weight. Please help!
i have these exact symptoms i had a hysterectomy and within 5 months i had gains like 50 pounds… i havent found anything to help me loose the weight.?
I have had a Hysterectomy as well and the night sweats and hot flashes are killing me. and the Weight Gain is something else I have Gained 45lbs and have tried everything to lose this but nothing is helping can someone help me with all of this mess Thanks Tina
I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago. I just turned 43. I am also on anti-depression meds. I am still a little moody and go through cycles of hot flashes, headaches, etc. I feel so sluggish that it just depresses me even more. I have tried everything to loose weight but just keep gaining. I need something to help too. Any suggestion you have or products you find, I would be so appreciative.
Amberen really does work. I’m 49 and thought i had a mental breakdown 2 years ago-woke up one day and found i couldnt deal stress anymore. Had my doctor prescribe anxiety meds. Didn’t like taking xanax since i believe in natural med. Only took them because i was desperate for relief! Not only for myself but my husband too-poor guy. I had terrible moodiness (aggresive!), irritable, anxious, edgy, depressed, few hot flashes, foggy mind, lack of memory, couldnt sleep at night, no energy! Within first few days of taking Amberen my energy level improved felt and I felt less anxious. 3 wks later….almost off anti-anxiety meds! I feel normal again. Can smile 🙂 by the way i also take thyroid replacement meds since thyroid removed 10 yrs ago. Be blessed!
Karen,
Have you found anything that works for you yet? I hope so. If not, please contact the HRC (hormone replacement compound) center in your area for a consultation. I think you will be amazed at how hormones play a vital role in the symptoms you are having. I believe they will be able to help you.
Hey! I am 54 and using I-Cool, which you can buy over the counter! Worth the cost of $20.00 a month! I can’t stand hot flashes! This stuff really works for me, but I realize everyone’s body responds to different medicines. I think you should try the I-cool and see for yourself.
So far, (after two months) it seems as if Mendapause is working. My hot flashes are decreasing after being absolutely terrible for 10 years.
It’s shocking that no one has come up with a quick, healthy treatment to eliminate our distressing menopause symptoms. But, at least I’m finally seeing some improvement.
I am 52 years old and have been taking mendapause for 10 days and I already see improvement. I sleep all night, I have sex desires again, no mood swings, not angry all the time, no hot flashes. I will see what happen with my weight because I am 5 feet and my weight is 172. I have gain so much weight. Happier and just more calmer.
Hi Martha,
Where did you buy the Mendapause? Is this otc product?
Go to Amazon.com and type in mendapause… $20/bottle
I want to know also if mendapause is OTC and who sells it?
Please let me know if it works for you.
Please let me know if it worked.
After 25 years of HRT, I discontinued taking the Prempro pills (at age 72); hot flashes and night sweats returned immediately. When I couldn’t take it any more I decided to try Amberen. It worked. In about two weeks, the hot flashes stopped almost completely and I was able to get a good night’s sleep instead of waking up every hour or so. I’ve read comments by some users who report it didn’t work for them. I guess that is just the way it is. Everyone is different. But, my life is so much better than it was. The only negative is that supposedly you take the pills for 90 days, then stop for 90 days; then take the pills for the next 90 days if the flashes start up again. In my case, I have to take the pills continually, and that’s OK with me. The cost averages about $30 a month.
Do you take a double dose or a single dose per day?
I’ve been through one month of I-Cool and was very skeptical, but figured it was worth $20 to find out. It has made a world of difference. I was waking up several times a night with hot flashes, the only symptom I’ve had, and I noticed the difference after the first couple of weeks. I haven’t had a hot flash at all in about 2 weeks. I’ll be stopping by the drug store on my way home today to pick up another 30 day supply.
I have tryed black cohosh and icool,, and this did not work, a waste of my money. I am a breast cancer survivor, and had to get off of Premarin after I was diagnosed.. I guess it is all trial and error for different meds over the counter. I thought about Effexor until I read about all the side effects.. if any other suggestions from my sisters (and brothers) in these power surges, please let me know!!!
I am 40 and have had symptoms like menopause for a couple of months now. I also had an IUD inserted approximately 18 mos ago so I don’t have a ‘cycle’. Lately, I’m moody… Can outburst in anger at the smallest thing, cry in an instant and sometimes at the dumbest things! Doc ran 2 blood tests and says it’s not menopause, gave me an anti-depressant a week ago. I REALLY think this is hormonal! I like my life, this miserable being is NOT me. I heard about Amberen on Dr. Laura today and I’m thinking about trying it. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? =(
I’m 56 am menapausal and can not for the love of God lose weight I go to the gym with my girlfriend at leased 4 times a week for an hour everyday , can’t lose weight ! is there anything I can take to lose this weight (20 lbs )? someone please help !!!!!
Hi Folks,
I am on my 2nd box of I-Cool and I am so thankful that I purchased this after seeing several commercials. I noticed a significant change after the 3rd pill and now, I don’t remember when I had hot flashes last! Thank God for something that really, truly works! I’d recommend you try it. I got mine from Walmart and a 30-day supply is about $14.00!
What are the side effects of Amberen? Does it cause any changes with people who have chronic disease such as diabetes? Do they need too be aware of symptoms to be concerned about?
Thanx
I have used Amberan for a little over a year. I thought it was the best thing although I too have to take it continually. Then all of a sudden, it quit working and I am back to hot flashes every 20-45 minutes. They keep getting worse, they have taken over my life, I can’t concentrate, I don’t want to do anything or go anywhere. Some are so bad I pass out, I NEED HELP. I called the Amberan people, they said to double up, which i did to no response. Can anybody tell my why it would work and then quit working.
Peng is my wife, she does not speak English. I am writing on her behalf. I have read testimonials for the last hour and nobody has mentioned excessive or prolonged period discharge. Will either of the products, Amberene or Avlimil, help with this symptom of menopause? All other symptoms seem to be normal or minimal.
Thank you,
dan schlosser/Peng, JiQun
sorry but Amberen doesnt seem to help with irregular period. I’ve been using for 3 wks and still having that problem. Also taking black cohosh and Magnesium supplement along with Amberen. My husband agrees we can deal with this better then the bad mood!
When I took Progon-B continually it did help with heavy periods. I followed the directions on the bottle.
She needs to speak to her obgyn if this is a constant problem. I dealt with this for a couple of years with absolutely no hormone therapy from my Doctor being able to cure the problem. I had an endometrial ablasion done versus a hysterectomy and it cured the problem instantly for me. Not very invasive of a procedure and very quick with just one day of mild cramping and my problem was cured. In some women, the body will stop having mestrual cycles altogether and luckily, I was one of them. Tell her to speak with her Doctor. She can get relief from this immediately with different procedures that are now available.
It sounds as if your wife is in the beginning stages of menopause. I had heavy menstrual periods in the year prior to stopping my periods all together. I would also skip months in the last year. Google “menopause” for more information on the stages. This blog will probably not be much help at this stage of your wifes symptoms.
I bought many otc products to help with hot flashes but nothing worked. I then tried I-COOL and after one month I had 50% less night sweats and hot flashes. Now, after three months I am not getting any hot flashes at all. This product works like magic. I had such insomnia from the hot flashes at night and now they are gone. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!
I have had thyroid cancer/surgery so am not sure whether I can take Amberen. It says consult a dr. which I am doing. I am curretnly on HRT and, while it has helped dramatically reduce night sweats, I have gained 30 pounds. I so want to lose this belly fat. Anyone have a suggestion for those of us with thyroid conditions?
i had my thyroid removed 10 yrs ago and taking levathroxin. i’m 49 now and “was” experiencing multiple menapause symptoms. Been taking xanax two yrs in small dose (.5mg) twice a day. It wasnt relieving the anxiety well enough and was at a point to ask doctor to increase my dosage. A friend told me Amberen helped her- so i bought it. I feel normal again!
My doctor looked at the Amberen and said its fine to take. Look into “Calm” magnesium supplement as well- we all need magnesium and calcium to prevent bone loss. This product helps with relaxation and leg-body cramps too.
This product works – period. I was having almost constant hot flashes. They got so bad that I couldn’t sleep at night. I would literally wake up with sweat running down my neck and chest. I tried Mendapause because I read the reviews, and after about a week, the hot flashes had subsided to the point where I was sleeping through the night without having to get up and change my sweat-soaked nightgown. I have been taking it now for about two months, and although the hot flashes have not disappeared completely, they have become infrequent enough that I’m actually surprised when I get one. This product works – period.
I took Icool for about 4 weeks and began to feel as if I was burning up on the inside, like my body temp had increased immensely. Also, the sweating I was experiencing increased and became very irritating. I don’t know if it was interacting with something else I take or simply did not agree with my system but I had to quit using it and am feeling much better now.
I tried the Amberen for 2 wks. and did not notice ANY difference. Don’t have hot flashes, but have trouble sleeping thru the night (I take OTC sleep aid every night for over 5 yrs, who cares if you get addicted, I’m kinda addicted to sleeping, but find if I forget to take I sleep OK too) mood swings, atrophed vagina, did not help any of those symptoms, so I am going to send back before 30 days to get money back….
Anyone have any experience with Estrovan for hot flashes???
I started taking estroven 5-6 years ago and for the first 3 years it work great. Took away the hotflashses and the night sweats. I suffer from depression (inherited) so I cannot vouch for the mood swings. Over the last two years the hotflashes and night sweats suddenly came back with a vengeance. I doubled, tripled and even quadroopled the dosage to no avail. I finally, out of desperation, stopped taking estroven completely. Within a couple weeks the sweats and flashes started to taper off. They didn’t stop but were managible. Four months ago I stopped muenstrating and the symptoms are almost gone. I am still not sleeping well at night, waking up every hour at least but at least I can fall back to sleep without changing pjs. Since each one of us are so chemically different I believe we just have to keep trying things like this until we find one that meets with our bodies needs. No one, not even ourselves, know what our own body needs chemically. It’s all going to be trial an error. Be patient and give it a shot. If it doesn’t work try the next one. Good luck, my heart is with you.
Yes, estroven does not work for me. It may work for you. I don’t know if there is anything that gets rid of hot flashes/night sweats if you have had a hysterecomy. I’m right there with you.

I am 55 years old and suffer from hot flashes, lack of sleep, mood swings, memory loss, no sex drive and just want to be by myself all the time.
I have taken Estroven for several years, it minimizes the night sweats and Hot Flashes to maybe 1-2 a day, helps with the mood swings too.
Still can not sleep, have memory loss, no sex drive and want to be by myself all the time.
Looking for something additional or that will help or eliminate everything!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah it don’t help with anything sorry
ive tried this and it worked for the first 2 weeks but then just stoped working .
Estroven worked for me for a few months. It stopped working after awhile when my symptoms got worse.
Estrovan works but once your system builds up an immunity to it, it stops working. They say you can start/stop again and reintroduce but you have to stay off them for 90 days. In the meantime, I am suffering badly so looking for something to tide me over.
I am 67 years old, healthy. I have ordered Amberen b/c of my lack of libido and mood swings. I took Premarin (had hysterectomy years ago) for 16 years. Was taken off by doctor last year. Since then I have no energy, struggle with my weight. Concerned before I start Amberen.
Thanks
I too am struggling with hot flashes, weight gain, and in general don’t have the energy to anything. I am 52 and have been in menopause for about 5 yrs. I tried bioidentical hormones. They were expensive and insurance wouldn’t pay for them. My husband wants me to try Amberen. Please let me know how it works for you.I have had sleep study and enough blood tests to be a vampire.I would be really interested in how this works for you.
why did you stopped using premarin? what I want to ask I have a problem with low libido plus very painful intercourse r/t excessive vaginal dryness.
I am 66, I have hot flashes, moody, tired all the time. I can’t seem to lose weight and I exercise at least 5 times a week with my husband at the gym. I have heard the advertisements about Amberan, is it all natural ingredients?
Dont understand the ingredients in Amberen but it is working for me. I’m 49, had thyroid removed 10 yrs ago and taking replacement meds for that. Was experiencing severe moodiness (to put it nicely) and couldnt sleep at night. Amberen is helping tremendously. My husband gives it 5 stars 🙂
Amberen is “all natural” in that the ingredients are found in nature.
Three of the ingredients are Succinic acid derivatives, metabolites involved in cellular energy production and in the detoxification of acetaldehyde from improper digestion of sugar, starch and alcohol.
The MSG acts as a neurotransmitter aid in the cross over from blood to brain barrier.
It basically allows electical impuses (caused by the minerals sodium, magnesium, and potassium) to work better and “jump-start” your hormones, hosted by the hypothalamus (the functioning center for four of the brains most powerful hormones (neurotransmitters) that affect the mind; Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine and acetylcholine).
The general functions of the hypothalamus include:
pituitary gland regulation
blood pressure regulation
hunger and salt cravings
feeding reflexes
thirst
body temperature regulation
hydration
heart rate
bladder function
water preservation
hormonal/neurotransmitter regulation
ovarian function
testicular function
mood & behavioral functions
wakefulness
metabolism
sleep cycles
energy levels
Also, the closer your body is to an alkaline state, in my opinion, the better it might work. Acid forming drugs or foods counteract the alkaline state, and one probably must take more to get it to work.
There are a lot of “getting to a neutral PH” websites out there, and, if I suggest really looking at your diet and your OTC supplements to see if you can get to neutral.
I think that’s why women who are using bio-identical hormones have a much easier time having it work for them.
Also, most of us are deficient in magnesium and potassium — and trying to get them both from food is very hard. I found ways to bring them up to near normal using usp grade powders, but, I know what I am doing.
Something like Zico Coconut Water is helpful, but for women on a fixed budget, this might be expensive.
Also, consider switching from synthetic thyroid hormones to “natural:, like Armour. I haven’t found any problem with that for me.
I had full blown menopause at the age of 40, and was on ERT up until about a year ago (I’m now 61) when a different doctor convinced me that I should stop it. I’m sorry that I ever stopped the ERT…my skin is sagging so badly that you can’t see my eyelids, and try as hard as I can, I can’t seem to lose any weight. I’ve seen a dietician for a healthy food program, and do strength training with a personal trainer 3 times a week, and still no weight loss, if anything my weight is creeping up. I know that I need to add more aerobic exercise, but I didn’t use to have to do that, so I know that it’s the change in my hormones that are doing this. Are there any supplements that might help with the weight?
hi KJ-
i have just gone to this website for the first time and your story
sounds like the same one that i have gone through. at the age of 42 i was in full blown menapause and i am now 54 and things are still out of control. the weight gain with all the food control and documenting don’t do anything to change my weight. i too have gone through the trainers, bio-identical hormones, nutritionist,
etc. and nothing has changed anything for my weight gain. have you found anything that has helped you since you posted your blog??
i was going to look into amberine but so many complain its no more than a way for corporation to get rich. i am reading that medapause was a product that some got some results from but
i’m not sure.
any luck with anything??
You said THREE are required, yet I see no product containing estradiol. I there one product which contains all three?
Im 51 and had to have a total hysterectomy for precancerous cells, about 2 weeks ago. The night sweats were awful! I started 540m Black Cohosh. My doctor told me to take 2 a day and put me on clonidine. It is for high blood pressure but it somehow dilates your blood vessels so your body (core temp) cools down faster. The night sweats are almost all gone..maybe one a night. At first I didn’t think it was working, but my doctor said it has to build up in my system, so if you try it, give it a chance to work.
I was 45 when it started I am 48 now and it is getting worst, every once and awhile I will have a day here and there I get nothing ,then all the suddene it hits hard to makeup for what I missed!
How long does this mean nasty rud bitch stay around ! I just got married for the first time I can’t lose my husband!
Every woman I talk to about it says let it alone be natural. DO NOT TAKE ANY DRUGS TO HELP ! But they never say why!
So why take nothing? And how long does this last?
Clare from PA.
Unfortnately it can last 10-15 years depending on your body’s chemistry. I began with symptoms in my mid to late 40’s and will celebrate my 55 birthday next week. I finally stopped the monthly garbage four months ago and the hot flashes etc. have started to taper off. Just letting it happen naturally is suffering!! Try the natural products, they are many and varied but most women can find something that helps keep life in the normal range. Don’t worry, if your husband doesn’t understand teach him. It’s amazing how a little factual knowledge can help their mindsets. My husband is 17 years older than I am and he still learned alot LOL. Don’t give up. There will be something out there that is helpful to you. It just may take some trial and error to find it. Good luck!!
Your testimony speaks to me! lol- i can laugh now…but 1 month ago i wasnt! I also re-married 3 1/2 yrs ago. My menapause symptoms started 2 1/2 yrs ago. We’ve known each other for 12 yrs and dated 1 yr. My new husband felt tricked…he hasnt told me this but i can only imagine! His smiling bride after one year turned into “unsmiling bride” to say the least. I can laugh now, but nothing was funny a month ago! I got prescribed xanax to help calm me down. They helped- but my symptoms increased and i was ready to up the dosage. My friend told me about Amberen. I’ve been taking them for 3 wks and almost ready to give up anxiety med completely. Amberens website is the first website i found to actually talk about Menapause and the symptoms clearly too. Check it out.
There are a lot of “natural” choices out there to try but I tried to tough it out because I couldn’t figure out what was happening to me, nor were the doctors any help. I finally found a female doctor who specialized in hormone therapy and she has been getting me through this long and drawn out process. I use a bioidentical hormone cream specially formulated for me based on regular blood tests. It has helped immensely. You might start with some of the OTC products and go from there but I would strongly suggest to get some help from a qualified professional (not easy to find). There are some great books out there too that may help you understand what is happening (Christiane Northrup) and help you make necessary choices. Don’t try to tough it out, it sucks, but I have found humor since now some of my friends are hitting it and understand what I have been dealing with for so long.
I’ve stuck it out for 3 years naturally with a very patient, understanding husband. I can no longer stand it myself. I’m going to try whatever I need to get back to “normal”. We are advanced human beings and help is there for us.
i have horrid chronic pain, neck, head, shoulder, hip, left leg & groin – diagnosed fibromyalgia/arthritis/trapped nerve etc. but i am so so irritable and felt like it was all the pain. i am 69 yrs old, want to feel better. where does one get amberen, mendopause from ? is it OTC ? should i have the hormone levels done first to see which is low and high ?
I first used amberen about a year and a half ago. I was having extreme hot flashes and night sweats, I heard about amberen on the radio and decided that I would give it a try, and it was like a miracle cure, I think it may have taken 2or 3 wks before it really started working, and it was magical, I took it to my dr to get her opinion she told me that it was safe and asked if it worked and she started recommending it to her patients. I now use amberen for 90 days and don’t need any more for about 4 months, and even then my symptoms are not that bad, so I don’t know if I am completing menopause or if my body has enough estrogen to sustain me longer, but I just ordered a 90 day supply and I will record exactly how long it last in my body..but I recommend it to everyone, it’s safe and it works, as a matter of fact I had begun to notice hormonal hair loss and that changed also..I am am glad that I decided to give it a chance.
Hi – I have tried pretty much evry OTC menopause pill out there and all seem to work for some period of time, then stop for some reason. I had pretty much given up but then my symptoms became so terrible that I couldn’t sleep, memory was horrible, couldn’t make simple decisions, was tired, irritable and had no energy. I decided to do another round of research and found Amberen. It looked like it took a different approach so I decided to give it a try.
I bought the 3 month supply and from experience, knew that it sometimes takes a while for the effects to kick-in, so I wasn’t expecting anything immediate – which was good because for the first 2 months, there was no difference. In fact, it almost seemed like things were getting worse! I then called the nurse line and got a very nice lady who asked me a few questions – 2 of which were; 1) Do you drink wine regulary (1/2 glass a day) and 2) Do you have alot of caffine regulary (1 glass of iced tea a day). She explained that these 2 factors together really escalte the symptoms and she suggested I take 4 pills instead of 2 for the remainder of the month.
So, I did that and still nothing changed, so I finished the box and just resigned myself to the fact that this, along with everything else, also was not going to work. After about a week of going off of the pills, I started noticing that my symptoms were definitly decreasing. Within 2 more weeks they were gone completely! I was so happy! Then, about a month later, they came back, so I ordered another 3 month supply and this time took the 4 pills that the nurse had recommended. When I finished those boxes, I again stopped taking the pills and my symptoms again went completely away and this time stayed away for 2 months. I am now getting ready to order another 3 boxes as they’re starting to come back again. I know this may not work the same for everyone, but I’m hopeful that this will continue to help over the long haul as the difference is quite literally night and day!
Hi Lena
Did you loose any weight on the Amberen? I am 43 and had to have a hysterectomy when I was 38. I have since then gained about 40 lbs and get irritated easily have no energy and VERY moody. Just didn’t want to get something if it wasn’t going to help me loose weight like it says it does… Please respond back thank you!
I completely agree. When I first started on Amberen my symptoms decreased but didn’t go away completely. But it was so much better. After I finished my three month course, I was worried that they would come back full force, but the exact opposite happened. No more symptoms! My symptoms are now starting to slowly come back and I’m about to order my second course. It really works – don’t know how, but it really does.
Hello Lc, Thank you for your encourging words about amberen.
i am in menopause and struggling to loose weight and with hot flashes and low sex drive and would like to know the best product for this , i was told that amberin was a good product what can you tell me about it
Hi, just wanted to say that after trying just about everything on the market for hot flashes (which have been extraordinarily severe), and nothing working, I tried icool and it’s been about two weeks now and I have to say, I feel really great. Didn’t even read about it, didn’t look into it, just desperately wanted and needed relief so I bought it and started it right away. I honestly feel great. The much advertised Estervan (of all varieties) did not work at all for me. It fell short every evening when trying to sleep. Anyway, icool is turning out to be absolutely great for me. Thank you so much.
I tried Amberen and it made my hot flashes more often. I returned the unused Amberen tablets and asked for a refund. I was very dispointed.
I didn’t know what a hot flash was until I started taking Amberen. 🙁 Now I seem to be stuck with them. (Why I am ON this website…) Sent Amberen back after three weeks. Moods did seem to improve, but have been off of Amberen two weeks and hot flashes are every couple of hours for a few minutes. 🙁
I had read so many negative things about Amberen after I’d ordered it so I didn’t have great expectations. Even though my hot flashes aren’t completely diminished, the very depressing BRAIN FOG ( you know, CRS) is pretty much gone. I have so much more energy to do the things I want and need to do! Sure, I’d like it just to take everything away and make me feel 20 again, but the reality is that I am so very grateful for having my brain back!!
I agree-we arent 20 and I’m also greatful for the relief this product has given.
I was just told that I am going through menopause at 45… Stopped having hot flashes but the night sweats and insomnia are truly taking it’s toll. Plus my breast are huge and kill me every day.. I can take them getting bigger for sure but the pain.. When will that stop?!? LOL
if they told me they might grow a bit I wouldn’t have gone through a depressed state for a month or so over this. But as they say…” This too shall pass.” I just want to know who THEY are so I can knock them out. LOL best of luck to all us crazy ladys. ; )
I had a complete and total hysterectomy when I was 38. I have had hormonal problems for along time. I have never been on any menopause treatment but thru my own research have helped myself some. You mentioned your breasts hurt. I take Omega-3 supplements which have helped me greatly. I also take silk soy chocolate milk, half a glass every other day, and no more hot flashes. I also take co-Q 10 for heart and Vit D and alot of Vit C. I was thinking of taking Amberen for the mood changes and irritability and the possibility of losing belly fat which comes with menopause, but I recently found a producst CLA that helps with fat in our cells decrease. I am still searching and I hope some of what I wrote will help you.
I have had been in menopause for 5 years. brain fog, no sleeping and low sex drive and of course hot flashes, especially after taking the morning shower and putting on makeup. That one is the worst of the day. Sometimes I have to take another shower to cool down. I wonder if it is the Chlorine in the water that causes that flash. I starting making Organic bath products in an attempt to get rid of SLS in the shower.
Reading this blog, I feel like a member of a group who understands the aggrevation of this part of our life. I had a period until I was 52. No problems, then it stopped. I read so many books. If you do not take hormones you age more quickly, and the worst was around your mouth. They called it changing into the look of an anus. That scared me into prescription Premarin. It caused me to cry and blood pressure through the roof. Then bioidenticals. Helped some. It has been the most miserable part of my life. Still on bio’s, but have hot flashes and take two otc sleeping aids each night to get at least 6 hours of sleep. Before meno I slept at least 8 to 9 hours. We need help. Oh did I mention the 40 pounds everyone is talking about. I always said I would not get a belly. Had aqualipo on it, and it still swells up. Up at 5 am this morning watching informercials on Hormo replacement, and this website.
What is CLA?
What is cla and does it actually help you lose belly fat?
Hi!
Wow! thought I was all alone with the breast tenderness and swelling! I have had that to various degrees for almost a year. How miserable! Started with acne (at age 50 mind you) this past summer. No sleep. Not terrible hot flashes, but they come every now and again. Night sweats sometimes….no weight gain, but I am compulsive in my dieting. Just completed my first week on amberen and my breasts are back to normal, my acne is getting better, I am sleeping better….not great yet, but I have hope, and not that I didnt have desire, but could not “get there” very often, now that is working as well and in only 1 week! Very excited to see what will come in 11 more weeks! I have had no side effects at all. I figured that I would start off with OTC, not too drastic to see what would happen. So far so good!
Good Luck!!
Hi there, just now reading all of the post about HRT, and Amberen. l am 54, and in the last three years, I have gone from a small to a med/lrg top, all because of these boobs I finally got. As a nurse, I had decided in my twenties that I was not going to take replacement hormones. I just felt that the reproductive system was something that we were born with, it matures and then dies. Now, I don’t know. If I don’t do something, between the insomnia and moodiness, someone is going to die. Hot flashes, not bad, but the other symptoms. I’ve always been controversial, some say tempermental, so I really don’t know what is menopausal or my natural self. Anyhoo, I found your comment witty and I wanted to return a comment. Although, afte reading all of these comments, I believe I will start with something OTC or at the GNC. Thanks
I have tried just about every OTC product…just ordered Amberen, mainly for the weight loss, but the one thing that really works on the mood swings, memory, anxeity & depression is yoga. I got the DVD, A.M. Yoga with Rodney Yee, & do it as often as I can. Very easy on the body & only takes 20 minutes…plus NO side effects!
I purchased ICool after intaking 30 tablets over 30 days no relief
They just didn’t work for me . I began taking Reminfemin great results. You just need to find what is best for you.
I’m 41 and just learned I am pre-menopausal. I cant concentrate, and it is so severe that I have lost a job because of this. I am prone to depression and anxiety which makes this worse because I am hypersensitive to anything changing in my body. When I have a hot flash or severe headache, I think the worst. I dont like taking meds, but I willing to at this point and Im looking for something that is OK to take with Lexipro.
Sonja, I find myself in so many of you. Please try the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety(they also help with Depression). I too suffered Panic Attacks and while taking Prozac, had visions of ending it all, Thank God I didn’t, this program helped me grow strong and believe in myself enough that I was able to (with my docs help) ween off the pills. It’s been over 5 years and I know I will never need them again. I too am very careful what I take, I do not like taking pills, but vitamins I do take. If you are a coffee drinker, try to ween off it. Also sugar and sodas. Try teas, yes, most of them taste horrid. My main one is Chamomile or Tension Tamer, it really calms my nerves. I use honey and have been able to use less as I get used to the flavor. I also use Trivia. Have faith in yourself, do something for you everyday, however small. You are a woman and we are the strongest. Best of Luck to you.
Will I gain any weight when using the Mendapause product? And is it safe and for how long can I be on this…my shipment has not arrived as of yet?
My life is upside down because i have hotflashes alot and my sex drive HA-HA As you say alot of dry ness. I am 54. I quit taking premarin because i was scared of getting breast cancer but i am seriously considering going back on it because no natural product has helped.
Hi, im 35 and had a hystectomy at 32. My doctor put me on the highest dose of estridiol and for the first year seemed to work. Then my mood swings got worse so i got put on a patch (cant remember the name). That seemed to work but was sooooo expensive each month so i went back to the estridiol. My mood swings are much better but now the hot flashes are coming. Im wondering if anyway can recommend anything. My fiance heard a commercial for amberen and gave me the number, im wondering if anyone thinks this is a good product or cold recommend something else
I am 33 yrs old and i had to have a full hysterectomy, the sweats and mood swings have gotten ridiculous ,my memory is slipping and i snap in a second,im either mad or crying.Ive been told about amberen and was thinking of tring that.
Special thanks to all that post tips and sometimes heart wrenching frustration. I too tried HRT right after my hysterectomy, after a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. The hemorrage was so great, nothing could be saved. The physical symptoms were horrible and I was just mega-crabby to be around. I gave up HRT and decided to live with the symptoms. After 8 years, the headaches/night sweats ramped up and ruined my sleep about 6 months ago, and I was exhausted. While watching TV in the garage, trying to cool down and not wake up the whole house, a late night Amberen commercial seemed like a piece of hope. I had poor results, at first. Their on-line chat wasn’t very helpful, but called and spoke with a nurse who seemed to really understand. The biggest point was hysterectomy menopause is different from normal life cycle. I was instructed to DOUBLE the dosage for about a week and see if that helped. The single dose caused “morning sickness” symptoms, so I didn’t want to take more and worsen the effects, but taken with lunch and dinner took away the queazies. On day 24, it’s like a switch flipped, I’m human again. It’s not a cure all, but the headaches/migraines are gone, hot flashes down to just ‘warmers’, from sopping wet night sweats can now use a single blanket, memory much clearer, slept 6 whole hours straight, and I finally feel good enough to care about anything. Definately take the pills AFTER food, bread/carbs seem to keep stomach settled the best. Now I have enough hope and energy to research other products. Ladies, please listen to your body, change and adjust for you, we’re all so very different, but keep trying. It is so WORTH it!
Amberen has a 90 day course but you must return the product within the 30 days you order the product! With shipping and holidays this is not enough time to try the product. This policy should be revisited!
I have tried amberen for almost three months. My hair has fallen out terribly, still have hot flashes, and have gained 30 lbs. I don’t believe it works.
Amberen didn’t work at all for me. Gave it several tries for over a year. An absolute waste of money.
I am 51 years old I tried icool for ten days the hot flash did not get any better i felt very gassy and bloated i don’t think i can take it is any one out there feeling the same way
I have been trying to get a website for your company, the phone # on your box has too many #s. I have tried your product for 2 weeks and all i have is problems. Could someone please call me and I will explain. My # is (810)941-9437 Thanks
I tried a couple of different creams as well as black cohash. They did not work and also caused rashes, I seem to have allergies to a lot of things. The I-Cool has worked wonders for my hot flashes and I did not have any adverse reactions. Went from moderate-severe hot flashes several times daily to very slight hot flashes occasionally. Still not losing weight though, need to lose 40lbs or so…
Hi,
I am 54 years old and had a full hysterectomy at the age of 39. I could only take the Climara patch 0.05 and it helped. I was laid off and don’t have Medical insurance so now I can’t sleep, some night sweats,I have anxiety, dryness and my sexual drive is gone. Also I have a very sensitive stomach what can you suggest?
Maria
i have 3 or 4 boxes never been opened was using this and it was working then it started breaking me out had just ordered a 3 month supply when the dr took me off. Will be glad to send you this med it isn’t doing me any good in my closet. no charge just want to get rid of this med.
Thanks, Cindy
I believe I’ve tried almost everything under the sun. Some things work for a few weeks and then stop working, some did nothing for me at all. Effexor took away the hot flashes, night sweats and depression until one day I woke up feeling worse than before I tried that. Sometimes I feel great for several weeks and the I feel absolutely awful, even on the same treatment. I just ordered AMBEREN because of their 100% guarantee. I sure hope it works. I barely sleep, am extremely moody and having hot flashes and nights sweats most days, depsite taking bioidentical hormone daily.
I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago due to fibroids. . . they left my ovaries. I have gained about 35 pounds . . . I get up and feel great but really don’t have the energy to work out . . . I don’t want to use any products that contain soy and don’t want anything that will increase my heart rate as I have had palpitations and was having panic attacks . . . those are just about gone but I don’t want to start them back up. My main goal is to get rid of this weight . . . yes the tire in the middle . . . I find myself starting my sentences with “I used to” . . . I used to be very thin, I used to be clear headed, I used to get on planes and go on adventures . . . I look forward to the day when I no longer start my sentences like that and am just living life to the fullest. So I am sending out and S.O.S.
JT, I suffered from panic attacks around the same age. I was able to find relief with Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety, I bought the program and it worked for me. You have to be strong and know that only you can cure yourself. As for exercising, I too am a bit scared the Heart Palpitations will cause another attack. But it doesn’t stop me, I remember the breathing and positive word exercises I learned, and since my doc has given me the green light and since I have had every imaginable test done for my heart and passed, I keep doing what I need to do to survive this ridiculous, unnecessary and unfair part of being a woman.
Hi-
I too had a hysterectomy for fibroids and have my ovaries. I have all the symptoms that you spoke of. I am wondering if you decided to try any OTC? I don’t experience severe hot flashes but I have zero energy and severe brain fog. If you would kindly let me know what you decided to try I would love to hear your feed back.
Thank you!
Diane
BTW, I am 49 if that matters 🙂
I tried Macafem, what a crock, didn’t work at all, I use a progestrone cream and now ordered Mendapause and Emerita(estrogen cream) make sure your products don’t contain titanium dioxide, it is a carciogen(cancerous) agent. Google every product for side affects, and be careful with drug interactions with heart/blood pressure meds. Do your research well before you fill a prescription and find a dr who cares about you, not getting profits from drug companies for pushing pills down our throats. Was thinking of trying marijuana(lol) but didn’t want to loose what brains that are still intact. Never took any pills in my life until now, take fish oil(the Mega Red ones are the best but pricey) a good multi vitamin, lots of water, and PRAY alot. I take Xanax for panic and anxiety attacks and want to replace it with Anxietol7 after the Christmas stuff to get off of all chemicals. God made the trees and bushes to heal the nations, not drugs. I feel for all of you women out there, this isn’t what I call fun or want to last for any length of time. My heart goes out to each of you. Remember to use this Wellesley site, it compares pills and creams and has done a remarkable job for us, so thanks to you for doing our homework for us and wanting what works the best for us. Merry Christmas and God be with all of you thru this. xoxoxo
Amen- try Amberen and get off the xanax. Thank you for your testimony.
What do you find is the best product or products OTC for mood swings? This is my biggest issue right now at 45yo. Every other month I have severe cramps for two days, then this too goes away. I did just purchase estroven mood, but have not taken it yet. Anyone have any issues with estroven mood? I do drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day which I was told may interact with some of these OTC remedies. I also have gained quite a bit of weight in the last 2 years. Thanks so much for any and all advise! Happy Holidays!
I was surgically castrated in the mid ’90’s. My doctor wanted me to be on Premarin which I totally refused because it was morally wrong in my eyes ( read about it, I am a horse lover) and thank God I didn’t do to the bad hormonal effects. So anyway I got on to the herbal way with Black Cohosh, chasteberry, shizandra, red clover etc. Sam-E, though pricey is worth it for the mood up lifting effects and to make it easier Vitamin World has flash fighter pills or go to Walmart and get estroven. Much better for me and I am 63 1/2. As with all natural products give it some time to be effective. Good luck!! Oh! and don’t forget to eat your spinach!!
I am so very happy to have found Amberen! I’m 49 and started having hot flashes so bad I could not stand it! I heard about Amberen and knew I had nothing to loose by trying it! After 17 days of trying Amberen my Hot Flashes have stopped! I highley recommend you at least try to product! To the makers of Amberen!
Thank you!!!
Penny
I have been going through menopause since 42 years old (47 now)the symptoms like everyone else here have not been that bad except for hot flashes..and nervousness. Although the worst thing has been weight gain! OMG I try to eat healthy and have gained about 30lbs in last 10 yrs….can anyone say if Amberan helps with weight gain like it claims? I love the all natural approach.
Angela,
I’ve started on Amberen and after 2 months nothing has changed. I still can’t sleep, I still have hot flashes every single hour and I did not lose any weight. It is safe enough to use, I hope your experience is better than mine.
i would like more information about amberen before i buy it
Hi, I’m 56 and am post-menopause but am having terrible insomnia and wondered which product Mendapause or Amberen might work best, or, if I should consider bio-identity hormones? What about Estroven? Thanks. Really need help with getting more sleep. It’s starting to cause depression.
I am 55 and after 4 months of no monthly I am hoping it’s over. The sweats and flashes are tapering off but I am still not sleeping. I was taking estroven for years and it helped the flashes and sweats but did nothing for the sleeping. I have not heard from others that it helped with sleep but keep asking. Good luck. If you find a way to get a good night sleep please email me, I too am desperate! catjoydavis@live.com
I am 44 and not having hot flashes or night sweats yet. However, I have difficulty sleeping, sex drive is in neutral, I have gained 20 lbs in the last year, trouble concentrating and have frequent mood swings. I have been thinking about trying Amberen, does anyone think it will help?
Hey folks, I too tried Amberen and it did not work for me. I am currently not taking anything but I sure could use some relief! I would like to try mendapause. Where can I buy it from?
I noticed that I do not hear your radio announcements anymore. Could it be that women are finding out that it does not work for most of us? My power surges were more numerous, gained weight, got acne, still edgy and wasted $100. I’m sure this won’t be shown but it felt good venting!
go to the doctor and ask for Gabapentin. It helps with hot flashes and lets you sleep. You take it at night
I would like to be able to try this product… Where can I get it?
hi everyone. i am 56 yr old female who is still menstrating but not regularly. i have stopped up to a year and started again then every 3 months, always skipping here and there and up to 6 months, etc. i have all the menopause symptoms. i have been told i have to go an entire minimum of 12 months without a period to be in menopause. i will tell you what works for moods, crying and depression. all natural, too. I swear by primrose oil. when i have slacked off i do notice i am weepy again and it takes up to two weeks to work again. I Love my Primrose. And i don’t use it full dose of three tabs a day. try it
I was researching amberen to see if its natural. Why dies it ‘obtain monosodium glutamate? Acupuncture and herbs especially Macs works best for hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings. Takes several treatments but you feel so much better and its natural.
what are Macs?
It’s Sunday morning. Saw an infomercial wee hours of the morning for Amberen. See a lot of late night T.V. being…I CAN’T SLEEP. I’m so depressed and almost hopeless about all this madness I’m going threw, and my husband. He’s understanding but, there are the times when I’m just a crazy mean “B”.I broke down and balled my eye’s out this morning & I told my husband this morning, I wished I was dead. I’m so tired of feeling like crap day in and out. I look in the mirror and don’t recognize the person l see anymore. I thought if I took care of myself I would age gracefully…NOT!!!! I’m wearing short sleeve tops in the winter time. I can’t wear my coat when I drive in case I get a hot flash. Then after I hot flash in store then go to car and freeze because I’m all wet. What a freaking nightmare. Shower, only to feel like I need another one by the time I’m done blow drying my hair. Besides sex ed, they need to teach girl’s what happens to there body during menopause, so their prepared. I heard about the change of life when I was growing up, but not prepared what to do with all this madness. Question…can you take Icool ans Amberen together or one at a time? Thank you. Jackie
The ony thing that is working for me is femgest. I have never in all my life felt so unbalanced with the hotness sadness tired dont even like to look in the mirrow cause I think thats not me. I look terrible. I was getting nausea never even heard of that plus waves of very cold chills yeah then all the hotness. The past month I had the most awful coldness waves all over my body. I felt like I was going to have a panic attack. Mine you I never was a stressed out person but this was getting scary along with the starving hormonal stuff. I was so hungry I felt like I was pregnant. After much research I tried femgest and it has workd for me but you have to not put it on the same spot each time. Start out with one fourth and do it after a shower so it absorbs better. You can try one half but i use it only once cause that works for me. Give it a try.Give it a coupl days. This saved my sanity cause I cant take the dr. junk. It makes me sick. I feel much better no hotness u will sleep great and it also caused me to not be hungry. I can tell when I run out of it cause I went without it for 2 weeks and I couldnt tolerate it. Then they wonder why WOMEN THINK they are losing it. iTS NOT ALL IN YOUR HEAD its been hell for me but I hope this helps you. I think I had all 38 symptoms of this menopause cause these are just a few. I hated to even cook i had to go outside I t felt like I was on fire …You can order it or go to a health store. Godbless
Jackie,
You just completely summed up everything I feel. I’ve tried everything, and I’m beginning to feel like life is just too hard. I’m so done with this. This IS NOT ME!!! I’m reading on this post that some of these women have been going through it for 20 years…I can’t do it…I don’t want to do it. I’m so glad that I’m not alone and not crazy. This just sucks so bad.
Jackie and Cecilia,
I felt exactly the same. I tried Amburen and the first two days my hot flashes were even worse. On the third day something happened and the hot flashes were reduced to a minimum. I took the 3 month course and it took nearly all my symptoms away. Stopped for 3 months with no symptoms and am just starting to get the hot flashes back again. I am about to order my next batch. Unrelated-I also purchased a stay-cool pillow and that really helps too.
Hi Jackie, I feel for you. Amberen alone should do the trick. Like you I was desperate to feel normal again. Been taking the Amberen 3 wks along with black cohosh and Magnesium. I feel so good now! its amazing! My husband gives Amberen 5 stars!
Jackie,
I can so relate to your story. I am 50 years old, had a hystorecomy approx 12 years ago (I still have my ovaries). Menopause started for me approx 1 1/2 years ago and has been a nightmare. The night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, no sex drive, insomnia, depression, etc. etc. etc. I quit my job to start a new one in a different industry and had to quit 5 weeks into training because I just couldn’t focus. The brain fog is really getting frustrating. Job hunting in this condition is another nightmare. I do not want to be around people. I can’t focus on any one thing long enough to get things done. I too want to try Amberen but it seems it works for some but not for others. I am torn as to whether I should order it or not. I see that I-Cool seems to have better reviews than Amberen. Fifty is definitely NOT fabulous! lol
Julie
Is there anyone out there that has lost weight with this product?
What works for sleep. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to get a good nights sleep. I have tried EVERYTHING. Please help me.
Hi I’m 51 and have been going through meopause for two years now. Have taken Estroven for over a year and worked well until now. Just started on I-Cool three days ago and hoping it will help.
I just heard about “Ashwaganda”. Has anyone else tried it and what can you tell me was your experience. I am on amberen…it has helped with everything but the weight. Have gained 8 lbs since I am on it. Is there ANYTHING that helps with weight gain?
is nausea and dizziness apart of menopause?
Hi, nobody else feeling join pains, amberen can help you with that also?
Amberrin did not work for me I spent way to much and all it did was make me have awful hot flashes and increased the intensity of all my menopause syptoms could not get a refund and also when I call there800 number was told to double my dose .
? How larg are the pills.I have trouble swallowing pills, can they be desolved? And would desolving them change how well they work?also is there a phone num. I can call to speak with someone?
I’ve used Estroven Max Strength for a couple of years with mixed results. BTW:Costco has THE best price. Estroven almost has eliminated my hot flashes during the day, and it does stabilize my mood, However, I still don’t sleep well. That is why I give it mixed reviews. When I stop taking it, the hot flashes come back with a vengeance. They have a night version that does help you fall alseep — only I wake up 3-4 fours later and dont sleep the rest of the night. My dr. prescribed Ambian which is a sleeping pill. Works wonders. Solid nights sleep w/o grogginess in the morning. It really is awesome – not not natural. Then again – not sleeping is not natural…lol So I do take that one/two nights a week just so I get some sleep. I think we just need to do as others have suggested..try different products and see what works. And may I add, my faith in God is what will get me through this. He made us this way for a reason (I think I’ll ask him why when I get up there:) so…look to Him – he wont let you down. As the Bible says: “To everything there is a season…” This is only a season Ladies…and it will pass.
I am 50 years old. I am in Menapause and have been for two years. I have tried everything and nothing worked until I tried TRANSITIONS by Pure Essence Labs. It is all natural and made with many beneficial herbs. It can be bought on the internet through the Vitamin Shoppe for $13 a bottle (one month Supply). You take one in the am and one in the pm before bed. It works!!! No more hot flashes. Mood is great and weight loss. I also take 1200 mg of Evening Primrose Oil and 25mg of DHEA. Tyrosine is also helpful for mood and I take 500 mg daily. Lastly, Emitra Natural Progesterone Cream (USP) , 1/4 tsp applied topically once in the am and once at night helps to balance your hormones as well. Diet and exercise are a must. Lots of fruits, veggies, and greens. Watch out for animal fats, milks, etc.. as they have estrogens. Another supplement I take is Tonalin CLA. It is all natural and you take one with each meal. It helps metabolize fat and helps you to lose weight naturally. You will see a big weight loss with this supplement. Actually, this was recommended by Dr. Oz on his latest show. I had been taking for a year prior to his recommendation. A good website to look at, too is Dr Randolph’s, “Hormone Hell”. He dedicates an entire practice to helping women. His office is in Jacksonville, Fl and he sells products via internet, suggests BHRT therapy when all else fails, wrote a book, “Hormone Hell”. I believe he was on Oprah Winfrey many years ago. There is some good stuff out there for us. However, please try Transitions, it really does work. I would combine with Natural Progesterone Cream. EMITRA is a great and pure product. There are many out there and they are NOT the same. Trust me, I have been educating myself for years with all of this. I was very sick with all of the hormonal imbalances that go with peri menapause and menapause. Good Luck and God Bless!!!!!
I am with everyone with the hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain and have tried everything OTC and nothing seems to work, and to make it worse my husband and kids are trying to get me to get on hormone therapy cause they say my hot flashes are ruining everything. I do not have mood swings but if I come home and is upset about all the dishes in the sink its not because they left me a mess, Its because I am having a hot flash. Everything gets blamed on it. I have been reading all of these statements anything new out there I can try.
I’m not sure why people think that corporations don’t profit from OTC products. In any case, if corporations didn’t profit no one would have jobs.
Hot flashes & night sweats are driving me nuts also. I was on Estrace (generic estradiol) and did well on it for years with a few flashes & night sweats. How ever started worrying about the reports on taking hormones. I had a partial hesterectomy when i was 35. I am now 57. My husband heard about Amberen on CNN and wanted me to call. I have been taking for 1 week. A few days in I thought I was improving and sleeping better and night sweats decreased to 2 or 3 at night. I have been taking it for around a week now, but the last couple of days feel like the hot flashes have gotten more intense and more often. I am torn between taking the full 90 days and seeing if it gets better or returning within the 30 days for the refund. $100 is a little expensive for me to afford, but if it works would be worth it I think. I will stay with it a little longer and see how it goes. It concerns me that I don’t know what the ingredients are.
Amberen has done nothing for me, I’m in my third week and am quite sure I’ll be returning the unused portion. The commercials regarding weight loss especially gave me a lot of hope and I’m truly disapointed that my condition(s)have not changed at all. Hopefully the product has helped someone somewhere.
I have had hot flashes for 5 years and the only thing that seems to make any difference at all is reducing the sugar intake. I have tried OTC menopause treatment stuff (cannot take HRT due to blood clotting issues), removed all phytoestrogens from my diet, etc., etc., but if I do not eat or drink anything except water after 7 pm, I have a lot fewer hot flashes and they are more mild. I have reduced the sugar during the day and it also helps. I try to avoid alcohol, MSG, things heated or cooked in plastic, caffeine, preservatives (I use veggie wash on all fresh stuff), chocolate, and anything else that is listed on the headache/migraine causing list. I also work at reducing stress, keeping an even temperature, and staying healthy. This all helps, but I would love to find a REAL solution. Sounds like nothing is dependable or truly working for most. How is it that we can solve issues concerning erectile disfunction, even the insurance pays for Viagra, … yet for menopause; nothing, …zip, zilch, nada. You would think there would be a huge motivated interest here since ‘papa ain’t gettin’ any’ until mama is feeling better than this! And funding??? Imagine the money to be made when someone produces a REAL solution?
What really works for menopause
I tried Estroven and other soy/ black cohash based products and they helped a little for a short time. Then all symptoms came back. I was having 20+ hot flashes a day, not able to sleep at night and was generally irritable all the time. I heard an Amberen ad on the radio and decided to try it. Within days I was symptom free – no hot flashes, night sweats etc and felt great. This lasted for almost 3 months. I have been using Amberen for 3 years now and I have occasional night sweats but overall I feel SO much better. I have recommended it to friends who have had similar results.
If you go on bioidenticle hormones, stay away from testosterone and DHEA if there’s any baldness in your family, (my brother was losing hair in his 30″s). The pharmacy added these to my compound WITHOUT asking me if I had siblings experiencing baldness and I lost 30% of my hair before I discovered the additives triggered baldness in me. I’m so angry at the pharmasist for not asking me that question in the very beginning!!! Even though I stopped using the cream 2 months ago, my hair isn’t coming back….
Just one more comment: If you can afford it or your ins. covers it,
get to an endocrinologist to get a real picture of what’s going on with you specifically. A cheaper alternative is to have a lab analyze your morning saliva for base-line hormone and cortisol levels. A professional compounder can create a cream geared to your own personal needs. Again – stay away from testosterone/DHEA if there’s baldness in your family.
Whoa! After reading all the comments and symptoms, I can see I’m not alone! Age 49. Total hysterectomy 2 yrs. ago. Immediately HRT estradiol, .05 mg/dy. 30 lb. gain, increase in clinical depression and sleep 18 hrs dy. Had to intensify psychotherapy with great success. Still listless often. Patch caused rash. Heard ANBEREN commercial and tried. First two days, energy returned, libido increased. I skipped a day with poor results. I’m going to continue the product without the estradiol for now. And there are too many 50+year olds with defined muscles and flat bellies at the gym who have won this battle. I’m engaged so have reason to just quit the couch! I’m going to force myself, like my life depends on it. Will report on ANBEREN.
My partner had a complete hysterectomy in October and was thrust into instant menopaus. It’s horrible for her, the crazy sweats, (I don’t know why they’re called night sweats, it’s all day long) moodniness, depression, loss of interest in well…most everything. It’s so hard to watch her go through that and it’s hard to go through with her. I miss the old her terribly as I know she misses feeling like herself. Problem is, she has hep C so she can’t take the estrogen pills and we also read black kohash is bad for her liver. It’s so frusterating, I have done so much research as to what would be safe for her to take just to come up empty handed for her. I saw a commercial for this I-cool supplement. Does anyone know anything about it?
I have suffered with peri menopause/menopause symptoms for 10 years now. My best friend, a nurse, told me about a book by Dr. Lee, a specialist in hormonal problems, it’s called “what your Dr. May not have told you about menopause”. I recommend it! I started using a cream called “progest” by Emerin, which he recommended. Wow! I went to get a mammogram and the radiologist asked what I was doing different because I always had to have extra images taken du to having had so many fibroids and this time my breasts were clear (you rub the cream on your breasts or your tummy). My breasts no longer hurt and the hot flashes diminished from several a day to once or twice a week. He only recommends natural products, and so far I am feeling 99 % better.
I have read all your comments and only one person mentioned heavy periods. I am 45. I don’t have nightsweats, hot flashes, moodiness or depression. My sex drive is still high. I have the very heavy bleeding, foggy brain and stomach fat. Does anyone else have this and know what helps?
Thanks
Started One A Day for Women Menapause OTC $12.99 and I npw sleep through the night and have no night sweats. Had a hysterectomy two years ago. My problem is no sex drive at all and weight gain. Is there one vitamin that deals with hormone balance?
I started taking amberen in Dec. 2011. After 4 days I was sick with a bad respiratory cough, burning lungs, and shortness of breath. I thought it was a winter virus – discontinued amberen until I felt better. I really hoped the advertising claims were true. I have started and stopped the dose 5 times now. Now the symptoms appear in less that 24 hours. I think it will kill me if I don’t discontinue it.
I called the customer service # and was transferred to a nurse. I was put on hold and told by the automated voice there were 0 calls ahead of me. No one ever came to the phone. I have tried contacting the website and have had no results with that either.
I think the company and it’s claims should be investigated.

After reading all the comments re: HRT and Amberen, I am going to start off with some OTC or products from GNC. All I know is, that each of us are different, we are not Crazy. We have to find what works for us individually. As a nurse, I do not believe meds are the cure for everything for everybody. Find what works the best for you. Good luck my sister/friends.
I tried amberen for the 3 months that they say and then stopped for three months. During that 3 months of no amberen i took I-Cool. I had no more night sweats and my hot flashes stopped and I got my period again. The only thing that really bothers me is the cellulite creeping up on my legs and all of a sudden i have this pouch belly!!!! How do I get rid of that. I am starting my next round of amberen. Any ideas about the belly isue and cellulite. Can’t stand it.
I haven’t been menstruating for the past three months. The hot flashes were driving me crazy. Three days after I started taking I-cool, I noticed the difference. I was having about 30 hot flashes during the day. I probably have about five now; and they are not as strong. I can keep working without a problem and I no longer feel that I’m in a bad mood. I’ve taken a total of 15 pills and feel so much better. My face no longer swets nor turns red. I bought it at Wallgreens over the counter about $20.
I’ll be 50 in June. I have gone up 2 pant sizes in about 3 months. That is not normal for me. Also having hot flashes and other symptoms. I found this site while researching Amberen. Didn’t find the answers I wanted so I kept looking. One product I know works for anxiety is Bach Rescue Remedy. Just a few drops under the tongue and your anxiety attach subsides in about 5 mins. They also have Rescue Sleep. The product is made from flowers in England. I’ve also heard of Dr. John R. Lee. You need to get his book, What Your Doctor May-Not Tell You About Menopause. He also has one on premenopause. I just ordered mine yesterday from Barnes and Noble. Go to this site: http://www.womhoo.com. They have alot of info for us and they also carry a product called Progestelle. It has a 90 day guarantee! So we actually get to find out if it works. I ordered it yesterday. It was only $30 with shipping. Right now they are giving away a second bottle with your first order. It’s an oil, not a cream. I intend to apply it to the bottom of my feet. That location is supposed to be best at getting things to your whole body fast. I just wanted to share what I have found and hope it helps some others.
I was so pleased for about the first 4 months on I-Cool. Now I am having hot flashes again. I am looking for something else. Any ideas?
I am 58 and feel for all of the women who posted. Have had every symptom there is except for serious depression (thank God). The best advice I can give is what my NP told me. The pre and menopause hormones works like a curve goes up, down and sometimes straight. It can be balanced for awhile then it will go off, (thus the symptoms). The type of symptoms are determined by other things going on, stress will cause adrenal problems, diet can cause blood sugar issues, heredity can cause thryoid issues, etc. That is why although women may have similar issues there is individuality involved. I have tried numerous things for over 10 years. Went on bio hrt which helped at first with hot flashes and moodiness. Went off after a year because I felt great. Six months later had my first panic attack and had to call 911. Figured it out myself that it was lack of progesterone, went back on bio hrt. That problem solved. Then came Vag dryness, no sex drive etc. Added low dose of estrdiol bio hrt and within 6 weeks that too was better but not perfect. But I told my NP that it seems whenever I solve one symptom another gets bumped to the top. My problem now is weight gain, even though I watch my diet, exercise like a maniac and take all kinds of supplements. Cod liver oil used to do the job with my stomach pouch but now it seems to have moved from my lower abdomen to my upper mid section. I keep hearing the Amberen ad about weight loss so I would like to try it but yet I am not hearing any antidotes here on losing weight. About a year ago I was under tremendous stress from alot of areas mainly a family member had a brain injury. Anyway I was lucky if I had an apple and a yogurt a day to eat. I lost 15lbs and although I was crazy out of my mind stressed my body felt great and I had no menopausal symptoms. Figure that one out. I am thinking that my body was thrown back into balance or something. Anyway my advice is to try, try, try different things but honestly expect to take care of one problem and trade it for another. And when things are balanced and good don’t get too cocky cuz this to can change. Good luck to all.

I tried Amberen after about 1 week I my hot flashes were subsiding but I was so emotional, I did not call I just started to double the dose which is what I figured they would tell me to do after reading the Amberen sheet in the box. It took a couple weeks but then I felt so much better! Although I did not loose a ton of weight my weight stablized and I lost about 4 lbs, not much but when you work out and calorie count and still are gaining it was a relief. It has been 3 months after the inital 3 month dose, I started gaining weight again. I have re-ordered Amberen today but am going to do a double dose. I found taking two in morning and two at night was hot I needed to take them. I will see how it goes this 2nd round. It worked for me! I hope it does the same as it did last time, wish I only needed single dose just not my luck.
Hello every one I ordered Amberen, couldnt wait to try it , its been 7 days now so for seems like my hot flashes have goten worse and but im trying to hang in there before I give up and send it back the nurse line was not that helpful there answers are very vague, one lady said her hair fell out has anybody experienced this. and I feel swollen around the mid section and gasey
I have found that over the counter stuff works a little bit for a little while. I also have found that my diet has A LOT to do with my hot flashes. If I eat red meat or greasy food my hot flashes get worse. I love a good juicy hamburger but it’s not all that worth it when I’m trying to sleep at night. If I eat really healthy, no greasy french fries or fried foods, I don’t even notice the hot flashes. I will treat myself to a juicy hamburger about once every two months. I’ll just eat 3 or 4 fries with it. I drink lots of water and have a salad with it also. The hot flashes are not too bad because my body was healthy before and it won’t last long. Also I have been making wonderful smoothies with tofu and spinach. Sounds gross I know but it’s mixed in with a banana and pineapple juice and nonfat yogurt.
I am trying to do some research for my girlfriend, who is 50 years old and had a full hysterectomy 9 years ago. I wanted to find out about Amberen and am not finding it to be useful for women who have had a hysterectomy. My poor gf does not sleep, gained 20 lbs in a year , is having issues with her heart, migraines, night sweats, hot flashes throughout the day, severe joint pain, anxiety and pretty much all other menopausal symptoms. Her quality of life has really gone downhill in the last year. Can someone please direct me to something? I don’t like watching her suffer. She was on ERT up until last year because it was causing her severe migraines, she has done the soy and black cohosh and other such remedies, nothing seems to work even after months of use.
Thank you for any response!
Im wondering which product will help me..im 46 now and gained over 70 lbs. Nite sweats seem to be more at night and i have no energy. I like to regain my strength and start runnung again.
I came to this website looking for “UNBIASED” information, but when I got to the section in the beginning overview that stated “Today, the health care industry is dominated by large corporations that bribe doctors with extravagant functions and gifts. These doctors then implicitly agree to prescribe their patients with the company’s product(s),” I realized I may be on yet another website with their own agenda to push. Firstly, there are so many regulations on pharma companies preventing them from even handing out pens to doctors or anyone who can prescribe their drugs anymore. Secondly, if you are seeing a doctor that will prescribe you a medication based on a dinner or pen they’ve received by a drug rep, you have bigger problems than your illness or disease – you need to find yourself a real doctor. Now, your website may have given some solid information, but I stopped reading when I got to the misinformation. You may want to consider cleaning that up. Just a thought as it is inflamatory and incorrect.
For all of you that has had chemo have your doctor check your thyroid levels. If they are above a 4-5 then you are hypothyroid and thyroid medication will help with the weigh gain and tiredness, hair loss and depression. My thyroid had been radiated and I know the difference between my low thyroid and my menopause due to hysterectomy. Just getting all the doc’s on board. Also they have me on Gabapentin for my hot flashes. It helps alot but need something more for the memory loss and libido.
i have been having hot flashes for a while now and the only thing i have found is womens one a day for menopause 50 pills and they only cost 15.00 at walmart. hot flashes if any are minimal, i sleep through the night. it will take about a week maybe for it to take effect it has to get into your system. i have been taking it for about 2-1/2 yrs now. i ran out of my pills about a month and a half ago and i was not able to get them for 2 weeks i was having sweats all the time and i kept waking up every 2 hrs. i have been taking them again for a couple of weeks now and i wont go to anything else for fear of them not working. i only gain about 10 pounds in the winter then i lose it in the summer. am a firm believer on womens one a day for menopause. please try it.
Just reading thru the blog and wanted to tell you my story. My life has been a living hell for the last 5 years was put on Lexipro by my Dr. due to terrible anxiety, hot flashes and all the other crazy syptoms. My weight is out of control – I am finally in menopause and I wanted to start to wean myself off Lexipro it controlled the syptoms but was very tired and walked around in a brain fog most of the time – I am in my second week of tapering off the drug – I am taking Gamma-aminobutyric acid (750 mg) and also started using I Cool. I was terrified that the hot flashes and anxiety would return it’s been now 3 weeks and I can honestly say that I have felt the best I have in this short time than I ever have after going thru all of this – not one single hot flash – I did not think it was going to work for me since I have tried everything on the market but it has – you just have to find what works for you – Good Luck to all of you!!
For all you Ladies who feel like you just came out of a steam bath after a shower or anytime during the day? My solution is a small counter top fan. I have one on my bath counter and run it when I am making up my face or hot curlers, ect. When I am hot during the day, I go and stand in front of my fan for a minute or two. I aim it at my face and neck. HEAVEN………. I have not used any meds for hot flashes, I have endured them for the past 3 years. Turn up the AC and all that. Not a pill person. Seems you take something and the side effects are worse than the symptoms. I see alot of warnings with Amberen and the others? What is anyone’s opinion on this pill?
I bought Amberen thinking it would help me with my hot flashes, weight and mood swings! NOT so! I’m very dissatified and have been on the 30 day supply. So how do I return the rest and get my money back;? money back guarantee…..
I am having all the sintomes that everybody mention here, but the worst part for me is the feeling that I have when the hot flushes will start, and it is something in my stomach that makes feel like scared, but I never felt that before. It is a horrible feeling, and then I feel real angry, upset, hate everything, etc. and my stomach is always like full of air, gas, etc. I’m not happy at all. I use natural products that are helping me a lot, but I believe because I’m just starting with the menopause, that is why the sintomes are this strong and strange. I also lost 40 lbs and I’m not going to gain a lb again. I’m 55 y. and strong, and I Decide to feel better.
Thank you for the notes that you posted here, I feel that I’m not alone anymore. Have a great day, all of you.
I’m getting scared about all of this. golden years? I don’t think that is going to happen.
I am 73, have been taking premarin since I was 45 years old. last few years I just take 1 mg of estradiol. I started taking Amberen because all of my weight is collecting in my midsection, I have lost 2/12 inches. After taking Amberen, I stopped the estrodiol completely. I’ve never had so many hot flases as I have had in the last few weeks. my apetite is horendous, but we don’t eat out any longer because I don’t want to embarass myself. My OB/GYN told me not to waste my money on Amberem. Any suggestions????
Anybody else on Amerbern and do they think it’s worth the price paid for it?
Just read all of the posts and I was surprised that no one mentioned regular exercise. Menopause hot flashes are caused pertly by your hypothalamus thinking that you need to cool off and begins a hot flash. When you exercise everyday you regulate your body tempature and it really helps with your hot flashes. Combine aerobic exercise with herbal supplements and you will be surprised with the results. The hard thing is that during menopause you don’t “feel” like exercising, but you have to press through your feelings and put those workout shoes on and get exercising. Exercise lifts the “fog” and gives you a sense of purpose!! In the midst of my menopause I lost my 52 year old sister to cancer and the grief sent me into a menopause nightmare, but as I started to exercise consistently I began feeling “normal” again!
As I read though these comments, I am reminded of the fact that all our bodies are different, how many of you spent the first day of your period doubled over In pain and vomiting. That was my experience. Doctors said the pill would help. It didn’t. What helped was cutting out caffeine (that also stopped my migraines too). It seems to me one product will work for some, another product for others. One thing that is helping me right now is exercising program called t-tap. On the days I do it I feel good on the days I skip it I feel lousy. No matter what you need to try different things if they work keep doing it, if not stop and try something else and don’t expect things to change over night
I am 51 and have been having hot flashes and weight gain for about 4 years now. I tried the estroven it did help for awhile and then it seemed to quit. I tried amberen did the 30 day thing ..i didn’t see any change. I did nothing for awhile then got on hormone from my doctor vival dot. It did work wonderfuly but then i started to have spotting and decided I didn’t want to do that so stopped. My hot flashes came back with a furry. I am now trying icool have been taking it for a week haven’t seen any changes yet. I’m hopeful. If it doesn’t work I think I might go back on the estroven, or try the mendapause. Any other suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. Good luck to us all.
I have found that Bio-Identicals have helped me greatly! I think having the right Practiciner monitoring your progress is key. I use a sublingual estergen in the morning and a progesterone cream at night(I use some on my neck it makes it so soft!)
I don’t know how other women have used Bio-HRT but my Practiciner started me out on the lowest dose with me increasing about every 5 days until on noticed relief. I did at the max dose get a head ache and spot so I was instructed to reduce the dosage of estergen as it was too dominate over the progesterone.
Every body is so complex and unique what works for one may not work for another. I have found great relief from this treatment- no more hot flashes! My issue with lower libido is still in play and somewhat painful sex but my Practnr has prescribed a vaginal tester one/estergen cream for that. I’m always a work in progress!! I also appreciate how she not only addresses the “horrormone” issues but my whole person. The questionair I filled out before our first meeting was very comprehensive.
I still hate the way my body looks this is one of the things I resent most about the “change” I do feel like I’ve morphed into another being. The good thing is I don’t put up with crap!
I have been using PhytoEstrogen by Solaray to help with my hot flashes. I have been taking it for about 3 weeks and was seeing some relieve. The hot flashes seemed to come on less often and they were not as severe. I then had surgery and was not taking them as I should have and I noticed a big difference! I am back on them and will continue taking them 2 x a day with food and pray that it will get better and better as time goes. I was on HRT for over 7 years and my doctor told me no more. He said that the hot flashes would go away in a couple of months. That sure did not happen, they only got worse until I started taking PhytoEstrogen. I found it at a health food store.
It contains soy, black cohash, dong quai, mexi-yam, magnesium, ginger root, licorice root, saw palmetto berry and Pygeun Bark Extract.
It costs about $20.00 for 120 capsules.
I started menopause at age 42, no more periods. I got started on HRT and took it for 15 years until I got DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ) which was about the size of 5 grains of salt. I started taking Mendapause 3 months ago and noticed I gained 15 pounds but my hot flashes have subsidied during the day but I’m still having problems at night. I average about 4 sweats a night which wakes me up. This produce does put me in a happy mood and when I’m happy I EAT!! Has anyone out there had this happen to them…take Mendapause and gained weight? I’m thinking of getting off it only to return to full blown hot flashes during the day at work. I’m 61 years of age now.
I am 47 years old and I have been having night sweats since I was 35, up and down libido, and the hot flashes have been coming for the last 3 yrs now. My sister-in-law told me about Estroven that is OTC at Walgreens. It worked wonders for me. I was changing my sheets and pjs at least 1-2 times a night, but not anymore. You only take 1 tablet at bedtime.
Valuable writing . I learned a lot from the analysis , Does anyone know if my assistant could possibly get ahold of a blank 2012 IRS 941 copy to fill in ?
